Once you have joined the BetterPoints Newham challenge, if the app has helped you to be more active and look after your health and well-being we want to hear from you. We invite participants to share their journey in our in-app survey.

Claide and her children walking to school

Claide is making every journey count

Claide, who lives in Plaistow, says BetterPoints has made being active much more enjoyable.

'Since joining BetterPoints, I have changed my routine. I take my children to school by bus, but I now choose to walk home whenever I can. Sometimes I also use a bike. The app has encouraged me to make more active travel choices, and I now look for opportunities to replace short bus journeys with walking.

The School Streets reward was what really motivated me to start using the app more regularly. I took the time to understand the challenges and different rewards I could earn, learn how the app works and make the most of every opportunity. I enjoy reaching my activity goals and earning rewards, which keeps me motivated.

Instead of seeing walking as something I only did when necessary, I now actively look for opportunities to walk more every day. Walking has become part of my daily routine, and I feel healthier, more energetic and more positive because of it.

I already recommend BetterPoints to my friends and family because I genuinely enjoy using it. I also share my experience on social media to inspire even more people to become more active and discover the benefits of the app.'

Kamara from Canning Town

How the Challenge Helped Kamara Stay Active and Motivated

'After dislocating my kneecap a few years ago, my activity levels became much more intermittent and dependent on motivation.

I found out about the BetterPoints Newham challenge after moving to East London. I wanted something that would help keep me accountable with my training and maintain my motivation. Having a visual representation of the movement and exercise I’m doing has always been really helpful for me, so the challenge felt like a great fit.

One of the things I enjoy most about the app is being able to submit the activities I’ve completed each day, as it gives me a real sense of accomplishment. I also enjoy the medals and monthly challenges, as well as the additional nature facts you unlock when you walk or complete certain activities. Those little features make the experience more engaging and motivate me to stay active and do more.

Since using the app, I’ve made a conscious effort to walk more instead of taking short bus or car journeys, especially if the walk is 30 minutes or less and the weather is manageable. I’m now much more aware of my daily steps and overall physical activity, including things like martial arts and jogging.

The biggest benefits I’ve noticed have been both physical and mental. I have better mental clarity and feel sharper when making decisions. Physically, I move with much more ease, and the recurring knee pain I used to experience has become far less frequent, which has really improved my quality of life. I also have noticeably better energy levels and feel less lethargic after meals.'

Adrita from Little Ilford

Young Health Changemaker Adrita's journey

'I’ve become much more aware of my daily activity levels and have made a conscious effort to move more. Where I previously wouldn’t think twice about short journeys, I now choose to walk whenever possible, seeing it as both a contribution to my health and a way to earn rewards.

The app has helped me build more consistent habits, encouraging me to stay active throughout the week rather than only occasionally. I’m also more mindful of my travel choices, often incorporating walking into my journeys, for example, walking part of the way instead of relying entirely on public transport.

Overall, my behaviour has shifted towards more active travel and less dependence on transport for short trips. This has noticeably increased how much I move each day, while also making physical activity feel more enjoyable and rewarding.'
